New bridal footwear from Rinaldi Design

New bridal footwear from Rinaldi Design

Sometimes life works in reverse. Cinderella wore the right glass slipper and then found her Prince Charming. I’ve found Mr Right and am now looking for that perfect pair of shoes to wear on my wedding day. But luckily, I don’t have to hunt around the entire city for them. Rinaldi, the signature store by shoe couturiere of Rina Shah, has just turned 10. And to celebrate, Rina’s turned out a line of bridal accessories that would make a bride blush. I enjoyed the display in its entirety. A glittering array of handbags, stilettos, kitten heels, wedges and more. I liked how they’re different from the mass-produced footwear that I see in most of the other shoe stores. These are painted with the brush of individualism, set apart from the ordinary with unusual trimmings like antique tapestry, animal prints, shimmering Swarovski and semi-precious stones. I bask in the knowledge that each pair is designed by Rina, handcut and individually crafted and embellished so beautifully that even the ready stock appears custom made (which is also an option for those who belong to Nitpickers Anonymous as I do!). But even I found the crystal-encrusted delicate spike heels eye-catching. Almost like a diamond set for the feet, these also have a matching solid square clutch which I couldn’t help coveting. Other dazzlers with classic kundan work on gold and silver, crystal clasps, metal-frame embroidery and bejewelled brooches, all follow this season’s trend of intricately embellished footwear. And even though I’m hardly likely to wear those plush thigh-high embroidered boots at any of my wedding functions, I picked up a pair for a special honeymoon evening. You’d probably like them for your New Year’s Eve celebrations — hot enough to keep you warm in the chilly weather and haute enough to keep the beau’s temperature up. Price: Ranges between Rs 3,500 and Rs 15,000.

Dress Your Kids for a Trip to the Park

Children love a trip to the park. Not just because it’s a chance to play outside, but because it’s often a family activity. Mom sits on the grass with the little one, Dad plays catch with the 5 year old and even the family dog comes along. It’s a dream day for a child. The most important thing to remember when dressing kids to go to the park is to dress them in layers. As the day goes by, the temperature can rise and drop significantly. Also, active children get warm quickly. If a child is dressed in layers, then he can regulate his body temperature more easily by adding and removing clothing as he feels necessary. Kids need to be comfortable when they are jumping, running and playing. Sweatsuits are great because they are comfortable and nonbinding, allowing your kid the maneuverability he needs to score a goal, climb the monkey bars or even do somersaults. Jeans are practical too because they are durable and stand up to big bumps and scrapes. Tight jeans, however, might be too constrictive. Shorts are good in the summer, but beware of the exposed knees. Young children should keep from running on gravel or pavement when wearing shorts as a fall could lead to a skinned knee. Avoid skirts for girls unless they are the kind with a pair of shorts sewn into them. Skirts are no fun at the playground because they limit a girl’s activities due to the fear of showing her underpants. On the feet, go for trainers. Trainers (or tennis shoes, or sneakers, depending on where you live) offer good foot support, are comfortable, and are flexible enough for participating in all sorts of fun outdoor activities. In the winter, you might want to opt for boots, and in the summer you may choose sandals. Even in summer, however, I do not recommend dressing your child in flip-flops for a trip to the park because they fall off easily, and they are a tripping hazard for younger children. I think it’s wise for children to wear a hat at the park, either to keep their heads warm in cool weather, or to protect their scalp and eyes from the sun in the summer months. For girls, it is a good idea to pull her hair up and out of her eyes. It can be dangerous if she is playing a game, or climbing and her visibility is compromised by her hair. Backpacks are good for storing snacks and small toys in as well as antiseptic wipes. A backpack is also useful if your child is a scavenger who just loves finding small treasures wherever he goes.

How to Wear a Hat

If you've fallen in love with a hat with a brim, make sure that it is scaled just right for your face and body. Monet Mazur's wool menswear hat is just about perfect: it features a neutral color that flatters her skin and the slightly dipped brim brings focus to her face.

You've seen celebrities looks great in hats, now you'd like to copy that look for yourself. We'll show you how to pull off hats the right way.

NATASCHA STOLLE is hottest name on London Fashion scene

NATASCHA STOLLE has just officially become one of the hottest names on the London Fashion scene. The designer, who showed her MA collection at the Central Saint Martins show last season, has grabbed the spot vacated by Noki to become the newest member of the achingly hip Fashion East line-up.

Stolle will join third-timer Louise Gray and second-timer David David (who also joins the New Gen set this season) on the Fashion East catwalk at London Fashion Week in September, VOGUE.COM is excited to announce.

Stolle, who describes her work as "clothes for girls who wish they'd been sluts in high school", caught the eye of Fashion East founder Lulu Kennedy at the CSM Grad show with her eye for mixing grown-up style with an underlying vibe of teenage sexuality - and fun.

"The character she was sending out was someone I could believe in and relate to; the kind of girl I'd be friends with... Who'd lend me her clothes," Kennedy explains.

With Stolle, Gray and David David onboard and TopShop providing sponsorship for the show for the tenth consecutive season, Fashion East again promises one not to be missed.

"Fashion East has established itself as an important platform to showcase the best of London's emerging designers," says Topshop's joint managing director, Mary Homer. "And this season, with the addition of Natascha Stolle to its stable, it promises to further consolidate it' reputation for delivering raw, exciting London-based talent to the international catwalks."

What to wear... on first day of College

When college starts, it always means a time for fashion (read: a time to find a great new look!)

The first day is the first appearance you have - make it a good one, because first impressions matter.
Keep things simple and classic, nothing in-your-face or over the top. It's okay to be a little trendy, but you have to adapt the trends to your personal style, or you'll end up looking like a major trend-chaser.

Put on the confidence! If you don't have it, fake it. When you aren't doubting yourself, no one else will doubt you or your clothing choices.

The idea behind a great first-day-of-colloge is a killer ensemble. Make sure you can back up your outfit & will keep your dressing pattern consistent - don't wear an ultra trendy, right-off-the-runway look and then turn around and wear simple jeans & a tee combo the rest of the year.

Look good, but nothing too dressy or attention-grabbing.

So get going!!
